Here’s another example of two of my worlds colliding. I built a 300-foot tall Mendel RepRap:

I built it with Forge, the map editor in Halo: Reach (entirely on an Xbox 360, using the controller.. no computer involved). I did it all by memory – the only measurement I did beforehand was to compare the width of a frame vertex piece to the lengths of the bars between the left and right triangles (and the length of the bars for the triangles themselves). As you can see, it’s printing a minimug!
Of course the best way to view it is to download the video straight to your Xbox 360 so you can see it from within Halo: Reach itself.
I’d always wanted to see what my RepRap Mendel would look like to a mouse or ant crawling onto it – some towering, huge structure. Halo let me do that. 😀
Over the past month I’ve made lots of progress with my actual real-life RepRap Mendel (and it’s print quality) that’s worth posting about, but I’m going to break that up into smaller posts since I have so much to document. First, though, I wanted to post this. 🙂
And for anyone who doesn’t know what an actual Mendel RepRap looks like, here are two picture of my actual real-life Mendel RepRap (RepRap Mendel?):

Yeah the Halo version was about 10 hours worth of time.. Quite worth it. 😀

Sweet! Yeah when it was announced that Forge for Halo: Reach was being improved, I set my hopes way too high – I hoped for objects that moved, the ability to script things, etc. Wasn’t too familiar with Garry’s Mod until right now – awesome! Sounds like what I’d wanted from way back in the VRML2 days! 🙂
(because, obviously, what we really want here is to have it moving the axes, depositing plastic, and actually printing something!)
hi, I just looked through your mendel posts… you are one of the most diligent people on blogging your stuff, you post pass or fail, which is good for everyone. Your prints have a lot of room for improvement… I have a functional but slow mcwire repstrap and have been working with a guy to get his mendel running, I’ve also done some troubleshooting on a makerbot. If I can help send me an email, I think I can help you with some settings / suggestions to dial in you printer to get better results.
